We are a busy family with three active boys, and we have always enjoyed getting outdoors as a break from routines and to just let the boys expend their energy somewhere other than inside.
A highlight for us has always been the campfires that bring us together, whether it’s starting the fire at dawn before the coffee is even made, getting a nice warm fire going that we know will last all day, or finally starting up a fire for a little downtime after kiddos go to bed.
When we moved to a house on the border of Waterloo, Ontario, we became the owners of our very own wood fireplace, an old fire pit with logs sunk halfway into the ground as benches, and a forest of trees in our backyard. We quickly saw that nightly fires could actually become a reality, though with just one hiccup; that of splitting our own wood, and lots of it. Nick searched high and low for a solution and we found a wonderful invention from the last place we would have expected to have twin desires for making fires, New Zealand. The back story of the young girl who invented it for a science fair project is a story in and of itself; it is inspiring and how we want to raise our boys; to be ever curious and look at new challenges from an unanticipated perspective.
Nick fell in love with the product and the story so we decided we had to share it, and have arranged to have these wonderful kindling crackers brought by boat straight from the forge in Australia.
As for us, we felt we had to share our Canadian love for that which brings friends and family together, along with a mission to bring to every Canadian the essentials any wood fireplace, cottage owner or camper would need, and of the highest quality. Relax by the fire, bask in the warmth, be proud of what you’ve made, and cheers to many new memories,
From our fire story to yours,
Alison, Nick and family.
